"During my first year of PhD, I had the pleasure of participating in the first International Summer School on Systems Biology (ISSSB 2022), which took place from October 10th to 14th, 2022 at Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn in Naples. The program was exceptionally well-organized and provided a rich and engaging learning environment that effectively combined theoretical lectures with practical sessions. The diversity and expertise of the lecturers provided a comprehensive overview of the field, from ecosystem scale modeling and omics data analysis to applications in biotechnology. The interactive format encouraged active participation, meaningful discussions, and collaboration among students from various academic backgrounds. One of the aspects that I liked the most was the opportunity to work on examples of real data and gain practical experience with widely used tools, such as NCBI database, or learn how to build and decode phylogenetic trees. The balance between basic knowledge and cutting-edge research made the experience both educational and inspiring. Beyond the academic content, the welcoming and collaborative atmosphere fostered networking and the exchange of ideas, which I found incredibly enriching both professionally and personally.
